Major General Ravi Murugan, Param Vishist Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Karnataka and Kerala Sub Area from August 2022 to July 2024.
He joined the National Defence Academy in June 1983 and was later commissioned into the 8th Battalion, The Brigade of Guards on 13 June 1987, after being awarded the President’s Gold Medal and Sword of Honour in the Indian Military Academy. He has a Masters Degree in Science from Madras University as also a M. Phil from Osmania University (Secunderabad).
In his 37 years of service, the General Officer has fulfilled multiple challenging roles across diverse operational areas to include the Western Borders, Siachen Glacier, the North East as well as the Command of a Counter Insurgency Division in J&K. He has held various important instructional, staff and United Nations peace keeping appointments during his service. The General Officer was the Defence & Military Attache in the Embassy of India (Washington DC) during the period from June 2016 to July 2019 and the Additional Director General Military Operations, Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army) New Delhi responsible for capacity building of the Indian Army, from 2020-2022.
He has been awarded the Param Vishist Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Chief of the Army Staff Commendation Card twice for his distinguished services in the Army. Major General Ravi Murugan retired from active military service on 30 June 2024.
