Gujarat Technological University is pioneered in helping student since its inception by incorporating the first student support startup mechanism named as Student Startup Support System as The S4. The University has continued to look into the critical minor needs of such student startup activities and establish a GTU Innovation Council in 2010. GTU Innovation Council as an innovation campaign has started strategic steps to establish a close and continuing inter-action for the students in all the undergraduate and postgraduate courses. GTU Innovation Council is one of the elite organizations of the nation for cultivating multilayer innovation ecosystem and launched India’s first GTU Student Startup Policy in November, 2014 based on College and University based Entrepreneurship (CUBE) Model. GTU Innovation Council (GIC) has been designed to establish close bonding between industries, entrepreneurs, faculty members and students to make research and development at the University, relevant to the needs of industries at national and international levels. It helps to create a culture of design, new and products augmentation and processes in the arena of industries. Through the efforts for creating culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in 10 years, an aura of developing the ecosystem across the state was conceptualized.
So far, GIC has sensitised more than 8.00 Lakh (Eight Lakh) students, faculties, researchers and Startups Enthusiasts. 373 innovative projects have been supported under Student Startup Policy. 37 Startups are availing benefits under Startup policy introduced by Industries and Mines Department with grant of Rs 5.08. Nearly 430 Startups have been benefited with various support and they have crated almost 700 jobs and Rs. 18 Crore turnover. Moreover, university has supported to file 168 patent- trademarks and design registration.
GTU Innovation and Startup Centre (GISC) has been designed to establish close bonding between industries, entrepreneurs, faculty members and students to make research and development at the university. Under GTU umbrella organization (GIC, AIC, DIC and IPR) we pioneering by supporting various activities.
Efforts of creating culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, university enable the way for setting up an incubation centre named as GTU Innovation and Startup Centre (GISC), a section 8 (not-for profit) company. GTU Innovation and Startup Centre provide support to Innovators for various grants along with Networking with Mentors, Strategies for market Traction and other allied support to scale up the Start-ups.
